We have been doing it this way from our Sydney workshop since 1984, using organic latex that is free of the nasty chemicals found in conventional mattresses.

Is a Double Mattress the Right Size for You?

A double mattress measures 137cm wide and can come in two lengths, the standard 188cm or a longer 193cm for taller sleepers. It is a popular choice for solo sleepers who like room to stretch out, and it works well in guest rooms, smaller bedrooms and apartments where a queen would crowd the space. Getting the size right is the first step to a comfortable night, because no amount of quality in the mattress itself makes up for being cramped.

If you share your bed every night, it is worth being honest about the trade-off. Split between two people, a double gives each person a little under 70cm of width, which is narrower than a single bed. Couples who want more room are usually better served by a queen. Personalised Support

Because every latex double mattress is made to order, we can build yours to the firmness you sleep best on, rather than a one-size-fits-all feel. The latex contours as you settle and springs back as you move, with posture zones adding support through the heavier parts of your body like the hips and shoulders. 

For a firmer bed, we make two coconut fibre models, where the density of the coir gives strong support and a layer of organic latex on each side keeps it from feeling hard underneath you. With proper care, any of them will hold their shape and support for years.

For vegan customers, we can leave out the wool layer and build a pure latex mattress inside our organic cotton and hemp cover. Some of these come with a removable, washable cover, which is handy for keeping things fresh over time.

Benefits of Natural Materials

The certified organic latex we use is naturally hypo-allergenic, antibacterial, antifungal and dust mite-resistant, which makes it a sound choice if allergies or sensitivities are a concern. It is naturally flame retardant too. Every stage of production meets GOTS and OEKO-TEX 100 standards, so the finished mattress is free of harmful toxins and very low in VOCs.

Latex has an open cell structure that breathes, letting heat escape instead of trapping it against you. The untreated wool layer helps regulate temperature as well, so the bed stays comfortable through warm nights and cold ones alike.

Sustainability and Ethical Manufacturing

The organic latex at the core of our mattresses is grown on sustainable plantations in Sri Lanka. The trees are tapped for their sap rather than cut down, so the same tree keeps producing for years. We work with a partner who shares our values, pays workers a fair wage and invests in the communities they operate in. None of this is an afterthought for us. It is the reason the business exists in the form it does.

Caring for Your Latex Double Mattress

Because our mattresses are made from natural materials with no chemical treatments, a little care goes a long way. Check the underside now and then for any moisture, and flip the mattress if you notice dampness. A slatted base helps here, as it lets air move freely underneath.
